welcome to my blog!

My name is Angel More and I am 16 years old. I'm climbing mountains, biking, swimming open water, and doing triathlons to raise awareness for Children International. Children International is an organization that supports children in poverty and I want to raise money to $1 million for Children International’s HOPE scholarship fund—to support 5,000 teens around the world who want to further their education in high school, college, or technical school, so they can escape the cycle of poverty. Follow my blog for updates about my adventures and fundraising.

let's end poverty for children worldwide!

I had an interview on CNN (HLN network)!! It was so nerve wracking, but also exciting. It is crazy thinking that I was on CNN. It will air Today 12:35pm PST Channel 57 (on Comcast). It is the live headline news - Michaela show. Check it out here!

On San Francisco Chronicle

I made the front page of San Francisco Chronicle newspaper (Bay Area section). It was more about chicken soup than my actual swim or fundraising - even though I had a few sips of chicken soup the entire swim. 😂

Completing Lake Tahoe (and CA Triple Crown!)

I became the youngest person to achieve the California Triple Crown of Marathon Swimming at the age of 15!

Today I swam from Lake Tahoe’s Camp Richardson in California to Incline village beach, in Nevada, a total distance of 21.3 miles. Also, I also became the youngest person to cross the length of Lake Tahoe!! In 1963, a girl

I finished with a time of 15:39:10! The challenges were the choppy water and the wind all night. I am glad that I stayed at Lake Tahoe for a week before my swim to get adjusted to the high altitude (~6,300 feet).

As always my crew was amazing!  Evan Morrison and Cathy Delneo were the official observers, Lisa Amorao (lucky charm) was the chief crew and Gretchen Fermer (so giving and supportive) kayaked and organized feeds! Thank you to Tom Linthicum for being an amazing captain!

Why do I swim such long distances

This is a question I get a lot. The answer, well is a mix of things. First, my swims gain attention, which helps me raise awareness and money for under privileged children around the world and  Children International gives me the platform to do so. (If you want to read why I raise money for CI, click here.)  Second because the time and effort that not only I put into training, but also my parents put into driving me, supporting me emotionally and financially. My parents are my number one supporters and means so much to me that they come out to all my swims and get up super early with me. Lastly, I enjoy expanding my comfort zone and taking on challenges. Not many people do what I do, and so it makes me feel proud that I can do these swims. The feeling when I finish is incomparable, I feel very accomplished and like I can do anything I wish to.

I went swimming  at King's Beach again. I swam near shore since I was by myself.

Acclimation Update: It felt as if I was in SF. I did not have any trouble breathing or keeping afloat.

Some more practice at Lake Tahoe

Today I swam with Abby! She just completed the Lake Tahoe length on Saturday. In fact she negative split the swim - she went faster in the second half than the first half! She has already swam Anacapa and Catalina, so she also got her California Triple Crown. She is super cool. We swam 2 miles in just over an hour. We saw a fake starfish and a brown lobster like animal.

Acclimatization update: I felt really good swimming. We swam against the wind in the beginning, so it was a little wavy, but when returning it was smooth sailing. Only thing is that I still cannot kick as hard as I can in the ocean, but it's getting there. I really like how warm and clear it is. :)

Here are a few articles I wrote for Everything SouthCity. The first one is about myself - I wrote it to talk a little bit about the swims I am doing and how people can help me raise money for Children International. The other two were for my internship at Parle Innovation.

Training swim in Tahoe

8/19/2018

Today I went on Reptile's (my captain) boat and jumped into the water a few miles off of shore. I swam for an hour, about 2 miles in rough, wavy water. This was really good experience since I got to know how the water would be if I was swimming in the wind.

Acclimatization update: The swim was overall pretty good. I’m doing well with the altitude, but I am struggling with the buoyancy - I can’t kick as hard. I’m going continue swimming in the lake so it will come eventually. The water was clear, a beautiful blue, and warm.
