welcome to my blog!

My name is Angel More and I am 16 years old. I'm climbing mountains, biking, swimming open water, and doing triathlons to raise awareness for Children International. Children International is an organization that supports children in poverty and I want to raise money to $1 million for Children International’s HOPE scholarship fund—to support 5,000 teens around the world who want to further their education in high school, college, or technical school, so they can escape the cycle of poverty. Follow my blog for updates about my adventures and fundraising.

let's end poverty for children worldwide!

Hip Hip, Hooray! Amber, at 9, did her first long-distance open water swim! She swam 1.2 miles in Lake Tahoe at an elevation of 6,200 ft! Her only prerequisites were to be accompanied by me, have clear water to swim in, warm water temperature, no sharks, and a parent sponsored build-a-bear as a reward. She got it all!

I completed Anacapa - The first swim in the California Triple Crow

I finished the Anacapa Swim with a lot of support
I am now a Channel Swimmer! I swam 20km in 7:37.43 from Anacapa Island to Oxnard’s Silver Strand beach becoming one of the youngest successful first attempt swimmer at 14 years of age.
For the Santa Barbara Channel swim, I got invaluable guidance from her swim coach Evan Morrison. I trained with him 3 to 4 days a week for a distance of about 22-25 km weekly during the past month. Evan helped correct my stroke for the long-distance swim and guided me over 2 hours each time they went out on the SF bay. Evan recommended that I change the Anacapa swim start time from midnight to 4AM displaying his confidence that I could still finish it by noon, which I did! I loved training with Evan and he is one of the best coach who facilitated my focus and dedication towards successful completion of this swim. Many thanks to Angel’s crew: Lisa Amorao, Peter Hayden, Dawn Drooks, Mike Hopper & Megan Wartz.

Sea Life

I got stung by several Jellyfish and she felt they were feeding off her. I got to swim along over a hundred dolphins and many sea dorks as they cheered her on in their own way! Also, she experienced that even after getting severe seasickness, she could swim for 12 miles.

An Observed Swim
Below is brief SBCSA posting, there will be a detailed report on their website soon:
Additional details from observer Peter Hayden: "Angel dropped into the moonlit, choppy seas off Anacapa at 4:42am. Large pods of several species of Dolphin crossed Angel’s path on almost an hourly basis from sunrise to the end of the swim. Angel was blessed with excellent conditions, including a spectacular crystal-clear canopy of stars under which to begin her swim, warm waters ranging from 68 to 70 degrees F, a mercifully cool fog blanket that settled over the channel at sunrise and remained for the duration of the swim, and lake-like conditions for her landing at Silver Strand Beach. Angel was supported in her effort by her Crew Chief, Lisa Amorao, Paddler Megan Wartz, and the crew of the Wavelength, captained by Dawn Brooks and Mike Hopper. Congratulations, Angel, for your successful completion of a challenging swim with good form and a cheerful outlook, and at the relatively young of 14."
