welcome to my blog!

My name is Angel More and I am 16 years old. I'm climbing mountains, biking, swimming open water, and doing triathlons to raise awareness for Children International. Children International is an organization that supports children in poverty and I want to raise money to $1 million for Children International’s HOPE scholarship fund—to support 5,000 teens around the world who want to further their education in high school, college, or technical school, so they can escape the cycle of poverty. Follow my blog for updates about my adventures and fundraising.

let's end poverty for children worldwide!

And Eddy Suprise

Today, I did a sunrise Golden Gate Bridge to Bay Bridge [6.2 miles] swim, my 6th Bridge to Bridge swim. In today's swim, something new happened. I kept swimming in place and discovered that I got stuck in an eddy!! I felt like she was getting nowhere! She fought it hard and got out of the eddy but by then the current which was in my direction of swim became weaker and my overall swim speed reduced. I finished it in 1:53.
On Saturday, I swam the Sharkfest’s Escape from Alcatraz event and got 2nd place in her age group. That was her 39th Alcatraz crossing in the past 2 years.

One last swim in England. This morning, pilot Stuart Gleeson took me on a 3hrs boat trip so that I could swim 5.25 miles from Folkestone to Dover. I took 2hrs 21mins. The weather was sunshiny and the water went from calm to choppy to calm.

Thames Bridge to Bridge Marathon swim event

I was the youngest participant ever in yesterday's Thames Bridge to Bridge Marathon swim event from Henley to Marlow in England. I got to do this swim after securing a special permission from the organizing committee as minimum participation age is 18. This was my longest swim with a distance of 14.1km, about 8.7 miles which I finished in 4 hours and 6 mins. The 600+ swimmers were divided into 3 groups and the swim started at 7:30am. After the first 4k, they had to get out of the water, walk across the lock on Thames river then proceed. Two more locks existed at 10k and 12k distance. My next goal is to aim for 20km! The weather here was uncharacteristically excellent

A Swim in the English Channel

Yesterday was a bright and sunny day in Dover but none of the channel solo/relay swim hopefuls could attempt the English Channel crossing due to high tide. That allowed the boat [Sea Leopard Charter] pilot Stuart Gleeson to make time for taking Angel for a swim in the channel introducing her to rough swimming conditions. She swam 2.6 miles and was fed water while swimming as a training exercise. The waves were high and rough and our boat was tossed around. We saw also dolphins swimming close to her :)Angel had a good time and was smiling. It was our first time going on a boat next to her swimming. We also went to a mobile home park where many channel swimming enthusiasts rent a room. Several swimmers were there for several weeks looking for a good break in the weather to attempt their swim. Young and Old Swimmers

Dover marina, southeast of England, start of the English Channel, opposite of Calais France and separated by 26 miles of strong current water and a busy shipping channel. I just met Ann Onton from Connecticut, who at 72 is aiming to be the oldest women to swim the channel on Aug 9th. They are now going for a 2 mile swim! I is looking forward to a swim on Friday and Saturday where one of the English channel pilots will guide me in swimming a small part of the channel!
