welcome to my blog!

My name is Angel More and I am 16 years old. I'm climbing mountains, biking, swimming open water, and doing triathlons to raise awareness for Children International. Children International is an organization that supports children in poverty and I want to raise money to $1 million for Children International’s HOPE scholarship fund—to support 5,000 teens around the world who want to further their education in high school, college, or technical school, so they can escape the cycle of poverty. Follow my blog for updates about my adventures and fundraising.

let's end poverty for children worldwide!

Raccoon Strait and some lessons

Today I swam at Angel Island. For the first time I swam the Raccoon Strait! Met some seals and porpoises... Was a little startled, but learned that I need relax and take a few breaths when I get scared. It is important to swim with buddies (or a kayak or boat), for safety.

Here is a video.

What about sharks?

Today I went for my early morning swim. Like usual I got in the water around 4:30am, but I got a little early because I felt on edge. While swimming I felt something around me, and the water felt eerie. I got out, and saw my friend, Irene. We talk for a little bit, before I went to the locker room to get ready for school. When I was leaving, a man told me: "Call 911, a woman has been bit". Some one had been bit by a sea lion. I did not know what to do for a second, but then realized I should be calling 911. I went out to see who got bit and it was Irene. I stayed on the call for a while describing where Irene was bit and conveying information to the other swimmers helping Irene. I waited until the firetrucks came to pick Irene up, and then I had to leave for school.

This whole experience was shocking. People ask me all the time if I am scared of sharks, but I never was because I had never seen them. Seals and sea lions on the other  hand, I see them all time. I never liked them, but I knew them as harmless. This was a wake up call that the ocean is not ours, and we should be respectful towards it.
